Board members present: Jim Anderson, Lynn Krigbaum, Norris Dodd, Dottie Baker, Richard Remington
Board members absent: Keith Justice, Barb Bechler, Ginny Handorf, Sue Sitko
Also present: John Vuolo, Bobbi and Rich Peterson representing Pine Lake Meadow property owners
Jim called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. A quorum was present. The minutes of February 13 were reviewed and Norris moved and Dottie seconded to accept them. Unanimous passage. Norris gave the Treasurer’s report. We have $1864 on hand and the anonymous stock donation which has not been transferred as yet. The only activity since February was a $3 charge for the safety deposit box. The deed has been finalized for the Holder Easement and Norris will put it in the safety deposit box. He also received a tax form which must be filed by May 15th. He will talk with Stephanie Irwin about it as it is the first one since we received the 401(c)3 status. Richard moved that Norris should have Stephanie complete the form if she will do it for $200 or less. Dottie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Norris reported on the Open Space Committee. He outlined their progress, stating that the maps still need to be drawn. Paul Esparza has no one to do this yet. The inventory is moving along and soon the committee will generate a list of owners of properties to contact. The developer of Elk Ridge was invited to the last meeting, but did not attend. Norris stated that the town has a 20 foot easement by Billy Creek on the Elk Ridge property and he drew a rough sketch of the property, Billy Creek and the Safeway shopping center. The possibilities are most attractive for using the shopping area and the creek as the Tejido plan suggested. Jeff Larson owns the contiguous property to the East and he would entertain a proposal for an easement for an urban trail.
Norris went to Black Mesa printing and got several possibilities and prices for a decal as was discussed at the last meeting. The board liked the 5” by 7” oval, three color on clear vinyl the best and Norris will see about ordering 250 which will cost about $600. Jim suggested that “We support” be added to the WMLT logo at the top and “We’re” be added to the “Working to Conserve Open Spaces” at the bottom. After more discussion, Dottie moved and Richard seconded a motion that Norris proceed with the decal and get 500 of the 3 color ovals. It should be noted the largest part of the expense is setting up and 500 only cost a bit more than 250. The motion passed unanimously.
Sue wrote a letter to send to members and prospective donors telling of our accomplishments and asking for support. There was discussion on ways to use this letter in addition to mailing to members. Lynn will ask the TRACKS board for permission to include Sue’s letter (modified) in their newsletter and/or send it to the mailing list of TRACKS members.
Lynn moved and Norris seconded that we pay dues to the Chamber of Commerce. The last time they were paid was July of 2005.
There was discussion of the need to set up an account to receive donations for the purchase of Woodland Lake Park. Jim and Norris will meet with Kelly Udall as soon as possible to discuss this. Norris will check with Stephanie Irwin to see if there may be any problems with WMLT collecting money for the town to buy Woodland Lake Park. It was noted that there may be legal complications, too.
The newsletter problems are still not solved, Dottie reported. She will check with Sherrill Sigmund to see if they can get the snarls out. Dottie has been successful in getting the notices in the Independent for the past 3 months. None of the articles written by Keith has yet appeared in the paper.
Richard reported that Blue Ridge School District has acquired 42.16 acres for the new school thru HELGA.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 PM.
