President Keith Justice called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM. The minutes of January 29 and December 11 meetings were approved. The minutes from the February meeting were not approved as there was no quorum present at that meeting.
The annual report to the Corporation Commission is due April 15.
The treasurers report was approved. There has been no income since the last meeting. Balance is $1347.85.
The Outreach committee report (notes attached) occupied much of the meeting. Sue showed the draft brochure which is 8 ½ X 14 with a cut off part to send in. Norris discussed logo possibilities. Results from High Five were disappointing so Ann Groebner was consulted and Sue showed her ideas. The estimated cost for the brochure in book stock white with black ink was $137 for 500. 1 color ink on colored paper was $172 for 1000. Sue thought we could get 1000 with 1 color ink and colored paper for less than $200 since the expensive part is the computer set-up. John Vuolo said pamphlets disappear quickly and so it is better to get more than we expect that we need. Discussion of the logo ensued and it was decided that the 2 competing designs will be improved and the results will be put on the web site by April 15 by Keith so that at the next meeting we can decide which one we like and how many brochures should be printed. Sue has drafts of one page information sheets for Conservation Easements and Financial Support of Land Protection. Members are to e-mail comments to Sue by April 4 and be ready to decide at the next meeting. Norris reported on a Press Release which he wrote for when we are ready to go public. Keith will check with Richard Watkins to see about getting a better price for hosting our web site. Sue discussed a pamphlet : Economic Value of Open Space which we need before we go to the town council. This gives information showing that open space and riparian areas have economic benefits. Sue showed 2 maps of an island showing protected and non-protected open space areas there. It has great visual impact. John will look into getting something similar for the Pinetop-Lakeside area.
Discussion of the Strategic Management Plan was deferred to the next meeting.
Gretchen e-mailed the history and update of the Hayworth Educational Land Grant Act and discussed bills and attempts to get Woodland Lake Park. A selling shares concept was discussed. Mary Ellen suggested having a retreat including Town Council, 20/20, Trust for Public Lands, various clubs and entities (Jane Hull and Janine Ford mentioned) to brainstorm ideas for acquiring Woodland Lake Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen have said they will return to the area May 1st. Perhaps we will have the May meeting on their property.
There was a discussion concerning the land along 260 across from Blue Ridge school.
There has been no change in the situation concerning the Rim Trail.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 PM.
Next meeting: April 23, 2005 at 3 PM
